The Arab Women Authority announced the completion of preparations for establishing the world’s first specialized hospital for the treatment of breast and cervical cancer in the city of Mosul, Iraq.
In a press statement issued today, Ms. Yasmine Bekdache, Assistant to the Secretary-General of the Arab Women Authority, confirmed that this long-prepared project, implemented in cooperation with international development institutions and donor funds, comes within the framework of the Authority’s International Campaign for the Expansion of Early Detection Centers for Breast Cancer in Less Developed Countries, reflecting its mission and humanitarian vision.
Bekdache added that the project, agreed upon with partners and announced in conjunction with October Global Breast Cancer Awareness Month—has an estimated value of around USD 100 million. It will be the first of its kind worldwide, offering free diagnostic and treatment services for women of all nationalities, embodying the joint efforts of international non-governmental organizations to mitigate the impact of this disease, which according to World Health Organization statistics continues to claim the lives of women globally at alarming rates.
It is worth noting that the International Campaign was launched, led, and continues to be overseen by the Arab Women Authority.
Bekdache concluded by noting that the technical advisory body recommended choosing the city of Mosul in northern Iraq due to its natural advantages, as well as the availability of administrative and technical facilities that will support the success of the project and ensure the sustainability and quality of its services.
